Epic offhand complete!

This definitely cost me a lot more money than anyone should ever spend on a weapon...

G11 is full of win.

•August 14, 2010 • 1 Comment

What can I say? There’s not much that I can complain about the recent update. Lots of new material, a full generation, more transformation skills and uncaps for Transformation of Light. I hear that they actually finished the update early too. o.O

WINS: New Shadow Misisons and enchants, Fast CC-ing and world loading, achievement system, party board access from anywhere (aka. housing board from anywhere if you use Nogiparty), auto weapon switch, and omg AUTO PRODUCTION FTW.

BOOS: Nexon robbed me of my Paladin transformation achievements. I was Champion before switching and want my well deserved achievements. >:

While I am pretty happy about the fact that G11 is not very noob friendly (we won’t have everyone running around with Brionac for a while at least), the Royal Alchemist system kind works to help mitigate the difficulty of G11 for those having trouble. :<

Update

•August 6, 2010 • 1 Comment

I wanted talk about my inactivity lately in this update. I’ve been studying for the MCATs for the past few weeks, and won’t be signing on to the game for a while. After the test my classes are starting up again, so my playing time will also be pretty limited. I’ll try to make new posts whenever I can though.

I guess I’ll include a quick tip since I’m making a post anyway. For those that don’t know, there are many windows that can be extended/dragged around this game. I’m sure everyone knows to move and drag the map and inventory window around. But there are some windows that can also be extended that prove useful. For example, the active item window. This is the window that you select your items from when you are deciding what to feed your ego, or what item to enchant on. Making this window bigger can save you a lot of annoying scrolling time.

Making this window longer is a good way to avoid scrolling past your weapons/armor when enchanting or feeding ego.

And while we’re talking about screen space management, there are some things you can do to save space if you play at a lower resolution. There are two small buttons at the bottom right of your screen that will minimize your character bar in different ways. The left one will condense your hp/mp/sp/exp bars to a small area at the bottom left of your screen. The right button will minimize all the buttons at the bottom leaving you with just your hp/mp/sp/exp bars. Both are nice ways to conserve a little more screen space.

In addition, Ctrl + I is a nice way to toggle the mini inventory should feel that you need more space. It’s a great way to prevent accidentally dropping equipment at a field boss too. (Ctrl + U is the toggle for the in-game recorder, just fyi).

That’s it for this update, I’ll try to post more in the coming weeks after my test. Have fun with the rest of summer and G11 everyone. :)

Rewind: G9S2 Dorren’s Request Pre-Nerf

•July 17, 2010 • 2 Comments

Many of the shadow missions were already patched when we got them in NA Mabinogi. One of them as I mentioned in a previous post is Dorren’s Request. In the foreign servers, the monsters in Dorren’s Request gave out huge amounts of experience (as opposed to the zero exp they give post-patch). Here’s a video of a fireball user grinding Golems in this particular shadow mission. Notice that each golem killed gave close to 3k experience including the bonuses.

Using Brionac for Skill Training (G11 Preview)

•July 7, 2010 • 2 Comments

Brionac (Sword of God) is a spear that is received upon completion of the G11 mainstream quests. It has a very large base damage (70-149) and high critical (39%) but cannot be enchanted or upgraded. The animation for it is the same as swinging a 2-handed sword. It is a very slow 2-hit weapon and gives a bonus damage to the Spear of Light skill.

It might seem like a great weapon so far, but the catch is that repairing Brionac will cost 4 ap (ability points) per point of durability. The repair rate is 100%, but as you can figure it is probably not a good idea to be spamming anything with this weapon.

One of the more interesting features of the Brionac is that it gives you the option to trade its durability points for skill training (in essence, trading AP for skill training). The main draw of this is that it allows players to circumvent tedious grinding for life skill training. However, there are combat skills such as defense that can be trained as well.

Skill    Dura Loss
Blacksmith 6
Carpentry 4
Enchant 2
Tailoring 2
Potion Making 0.75
Refining 0.75
Weaving 0.75
Alchemy Mastery 0.5
Defence 0.25

Chart taken from mabiwiki.

It is possible to obtain up to 90% of training for a skill by trading in AP based off of the rate in the chart above. Training can be done once per 24 real-life hours (10% skill training [requirement training, thanks Mcxar for the correction] every real day). The last 10% you must obtain yourself through regular training.

If you want to take advantage of this option come g11, better start saving up AP now. As you can see, some of these skills can be quite costly.
